Locating research projects in Israel and abroad

Before submitting a research proposal for a master's or a doctoral degree, it is necessary to clarify whether identical work in this field has been written in the past in Israel or abroad.
  • In order to locate previously written work, you must search the national catalogs and databases via the library system website.
  • To search for unpublished work or those currently being written, go to the section dedicated to unpublished work / currently being written in the university websites.

Locating works written in Israel

Search national catalogs and locate work written in Hebrew and foreign languages. In order to limit the search by type of publication and language, go to the Advanced Search screen and choose the type of material (Thesis / Dissertation).
 
In the following catalogs, it is recommended that you search simultaneously in Hebrew and English.
  • Local catalog at Bar-Ilan University.
  • National Catalog ULI: The search must be limited to a material type on the basic search screen (select catalog: theses only) and only then switch to the Advanced Search screen.
  • Catalog of the National Library.
  • In the social sciences, education, and related subjects, it is also possible to search the Sxold institute databases that refer to works written by Israelis. 
Locating works written abroad
To locate works from abroad, you must search databases that provide references to Dissertations and Theses from around the world.
 
          Dissertations and Theses A & I from Proquest.
This database provides references to research work in various fields published around the world, from 1743. The reference to the work contains bibliographical details, the abstract, and the first 24 pages in full text that were scanned from the work. Sometimes a link to the full text of the entire work is available as well

Go to the Advanced Search screen and limit the Content field to publication type: Thesis / dissertations
Ebsco Open Dissertations
Search for theses by the use of keywords. The database contains a link to the library that may or may not allow access to the full text. It also includes the American Doctoral Dissertations. 
An index of research papers written in various fields in various universities in the United States between 1933-1955.

You can access the relevant databases on the library website, and check the possibility of limiting the search to research work.

How to find works that are in the process of being written

  • To search for unpublished work or those currently being written, go to the section dedicated to unpublished work / currently being written in the university websites.
  • Bar-Ilan University:  On the university's homepage, choose from the top bar in advanced degrees, and in the next screen select from the top bar in the dissertations. The following screen shows a link to doctoral works in the process of writing. You can browse by name of faculty and department.
  • The Hebrew University: On the home site, choose from the top bar in research and development and then in doctoral work. You can limit your search by faculty and department name, and search for relevant keywords in Hebrew and English.
     
    In addition, it is recommended to consult either the research advisor or other researchers in the field.
