Locating research projects in Israel and abroad

Before submitting a research proposal for a master's or a doctoral degree, it is necessary to clarify whether identical work in this field has been written in the past in Israel or abroad.

  • In order to locate previously written work, you must search the national catalogs and databases via the library system website.
  • To search for unpublished work or those currently being written, go to the section dedicated to unpublished work / currently being written in the university websites.

Locating works written in Israel

Search national catalogs and locate work written in Hebrew and foreign languages. In order to limit the search by type of publication and language, go to the Advanced Search screen and choose the type of material (Thesis / Dissertation).
 
In the following catalogs, it is recommended that you search simultaneously in Hebrew and English.

Locating works written abroad

To locate works from abroad, you must search databases that provide references to Dissertations and Theses from around the world.
 
This database provides references to research work in various fields published around the world, from 1743. The reference to the work contains bibliographical details, the abstract, and the first 24 pages in full text that were scanned from the work. Sometimes a link to the full text of the entire work is available as well

Go to the Advanced Search screen and limit the Content field to publication type: Thesis / dissertations
Search for theses by the use of keywords. The database contains a link to the library that may or may not allow access to the full text. It also includes the American Doctoral Dissertations. 
An index of research papers written in various fields in various universities in the United States between 1933-1955.

You can access the relevant databases on the library website, and check the possibility of limiting the search to research work.

Finding works that are in the process of being written

  • To search for unpublished work or those currently being written, go to the section dedicated to unpublished work / currently being written in the university websites.
  • Bar Ilan University; On the School of Graduate Studies website, on the menu bar select "Students > PhD > Database of Doctoral Dissertations". On this page (in Hebrew) there is a link to doctoral dissertations that are currently being written. You can browse by the name of the faculty and department.  Bar-Ilan University: 
  • The Hebrew University: On the home site, choose from the top bar in research and development and then in doctoral work. You can limit your search by faculty and department name, and search for relevant keywords in Hebrew and English.
  • In addition, it is recommended to consult either the research advisor or other researchers in the field.
