In Memory of Etal
Etal Lifshitz, of blessed memory
In Elul 5776, we parted from Etal Lifshitz z”l,
a graduate of the Midrasha who founded and managed the Midrasha’s library from 1992 to 2016.
Etal, our dear friend, a lover of people and of books, a precise and professional scholar.
A woman of kindness—both revealed and hidden—who greeted everyone with warmth.
She knew the library like the palm of her hand and assisted every student who entered its doors.
Etal z”l, 5 Av 5721 – 24 Elul 5776, was born and raised in Petah Tikva,
the daughter of Rabbi Aryeh Leib zt”l and Rebbetzin Rachel z”l (née Rakovsky).
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Jewish Studies and a master’s degree in Information Science.
She authored the booklet “A Tour of Judaism Through the Jewish Bookshelf,”
in which she summarized all the books in the library according to topics and historical periods,
including biographies of key figures, their life’s work, and major writings.
The booklet is available in the Midrasha’s library and in the National Library of Israel.
Etal was part of the Midrasha staff, participated in reviewing academic papers,
and led chavruta study sessions for regular students and participants in the “Otzmot” program.
In her honor and memory, the Midrasha holds an annual project of writing papers on Torah topics:
“And now, write for yourselves,” generously sponsored by her family.
