Important Notice Regarding Renovations in the Jewish Studies, Social Sciences, and Information Studies Libraries
We are pleased to inform you that beginning February 22nd , 2026, renovation work will commence in the reading hall of the Jewish Studies Library (Building 401), the Information Studies Library (Building 401), and the Social Sciences Library (Building 213).
The purpose of the renovation is to renew the library spaces, both in design and infrastructure. As part of the project, new furniture and equipment will be installed, along with advanced technological solutions that will enable the creation of innovative, diverse, and accessible learning and research environments tailored to the academic community’s teaching, learning, and research needs at Bar-Ilan University.
The renewed spaces are also designed to serve as social areas for meetings, collaboration, and interaction.
Below are several important points:
Jewish Studies Library
- The renovation will focus on the Judica reading hall. A significant portion of the hall’s collection will not be accessible.
- All other collections will remain open and available to the public, including the Rare Books Collection (by prior arrangement), the open-shelf collection, and the collections located on floor -1.
- The open-shelf area, the learning spaces on floor -1, and the reader's services area at the entrance level will continue to operate as usual.
Information Studies Library
- During the renovation, part of the collection will not be accessible.
- Please note: Information regarding the temporary location of the library during the renovation period will be published at a later time.
Social Sciences Library
- During the renovation period, a significant portion of the collection will not be accessible.
- We recommend preparing in advance— please visit the library by Thursday, February 19th , 2026, to borrow books and materials you may need later, as long as they are eligible for loan.
Loan quotas (according to existing regulations):
- Bachelor’s and Master’s students: up to 50 books simultaneously
- Doctoral students, academic and administrative staff: up to 100 books simultaneously
Loans will be automatically extended up to the maximum loan period unless the item is requested by another reader. In such cases, an email notice will be sent.
Please note: Information regarding the temporary location of the library during the renovation period will be announced later.
It is important to emphasize that during the renovation period, the Libraries and Information Division will continue to provide services as usual.
