Borrowing Procedures
Eligible for borrowing services: registered students, academic staff, and administrative staff
Loan periods:
Textbook – 3 days
Regular book – one week
Undergraduate and master’s students may borrow 40 books simultaneously.
Doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and academic and administrative staff may borrow 100 books simultaneously.
Borrowing privileges are personal and non transferable. It is the borrowers responsibility to return books to the library.
The information recorded in the computer system is the determining source regarding student status, borrowing details, delays, and fines.
A student who returns an item in damaged condition will be charged for the purchase of a new item.
Renewals
Book renewals are automatic.
The borrowing system automatically extends the loan period according to the designated borrowing time for the book.
Automatic renewal is limited to a period of six months for undergraduate and master’s students, and one year for faculty and doctoral students.
Renewal will be performed for all books in your possession, except in the following cases:
• Books requested by other readers.
• Books that have been on loan for six months.
• Readers whose borrowing privileges have been suspended due to overdue returns.
• Readers whose registration has expired.
Books with a limited loan period (reserved books) will not be renewed automatically.
Book Returns
Returns may be made at the library desk, or after opening hours in the book return box near the library entrance.
Responsibility for books placed in the return box lies with the reader.
Book Requests
Books for which all copies are on loan may be requested. Students may place such requests independently through the online catalog.
The library will notify by email when a requested book must be returned.
Interlibrary Loan
A book or an article from a journal that is not part of the Bar-Ilan Library collections may be ordered from other libraries in Israel and abroad through Interlibrary Loan. For more information.
Library Notices
Library notices will be sent to the student’s email address. It is the student’s responsibility to update their personal email address at the Curriculum Planning (Talam) Office.
Library Catalog
The library catalog enables readers to locate items from the library’s collection and to perform book renewals and book requests online. Access to the catalog is open, and readers may perform all these actions from outside the campus as well.
Supporting information systems expand access to electronic resources and improve connectivity between documents across various platforms.
The EDS system is a discovery tool (search engine) that enables simultaneous searching across numerous online databases and publishers’ websites for journals and books. Through the EDS system, you can retrieve rich and diverse results of electronic publications such as books, academic articles, review articles, conference reports, research reports, and more, from among millions of items in online databases and websites.
